Becoming a CHC member
Becoming a CHC member

There are three ways of becoming a member of your local CHC:

Local Authorities nominate half of the members of each CHC. If
you are active in local politics or are a member of your Local
Authority, contact the Chief Executive for details of how to be
nominated.

Voluntary organisations who deal with health matter nominate one
third of CHC members; contact your local Council for Voluntary
Service or voluntary action group for details of how to be
nominated.

The remaining membership of CHCs is made up of individuals
appointed by the Secretary of State; application forms may be
obtained from the Corporate Affairs Group CHC Support, West
Midlands Office of the NHS Executive, Bartholomew House, 142
Hagley Road, Birmingham B16 9PA.

CHCs have between 18 and 30 voluntary members, who live and/or
work in the area. Appointments are for a 4-year term.

CHCs also have the power to "co-opt" interested individuals onto
working groups. All CHC meetings are open to the public – why
don't you come along and see what we are doing? E-mail us or
telephone (0121) 327 5987 to find out the date of our next
meeting.
